Investment Discipline
Covington Capital Corporation is a provider of venture capital investment
funds. It provides Canadian investors with the ability to access venture
capital investment opportunities through its retail venture capital product
offerings and invests in privately held companies with the objective of growing
a business toward an eventual exit (typically through an initial public
offering, merger, or acquisition) and seeking to provide a strong return over
the initial investment.
Covington’s investment team is comprised of some of Canada’s most experienced
venture capital managers. The team has invested in a number of companies across
a diverse range of industry sectors including traditional industries,
technology and health care. Covington’s investment approach is "pure venture
capital" – the majority of its investments are through equity and/or
convertible debt structures. Unlike a pure debt investment structure, which is
passive and generally provides for lower return potential, equity-based
investment structures allow Covington to take a hands-on approach to investing
and maximize the return potential of each investment.
The Firm
Established in 1994, Covington Capital is one of Canada’s largest providers of
venture capital investment funds for retail investors. The firm is based in
Toronto and is led by Managing Directors Scott Clark and Phil Reddon.
