Investment Discipline
Essex Investment Management Company, LLC ("Essex") is a Boston and
Chicago-based investment management firm which specializes in growth equity
investments on behalf of institutional and private clients. Essex offers a
range of growth equity strategies and employs proprietary fundamental research
combined with active portfolio management. Essex believes that a company's
price performance is driven by its revenue growth, future profitability, and
cash flow. By understanding the factors that determine a company's growth and
profitability, the firm is better able to anticipate inflection points in a
company's performance before it is fully reflected in the stock price. While
stock selection is the primary driver of the firm's investment strategy, Essex
also invests in companies it believes will benefit from secular changes or
common themes. The firm executes its sell discipline when it anticipates a
company's loss of proprietary or dominant position, a better investment
opportunity or it anticipates earnings deceleration, disappointment or quality
breakdown.
The Firm
Founded in 1976, the firm is led by its Management Committee consisting of
Chief Executive Officer Christopher P. McConnell, and Managing Principals
Joseph C. McNay and Stephen D. Cutler.
Essex's diversified client base includes corporate accounts, endowments,
foundations, public funds, Taft-Hartley funds, mutual funds and private
clients.
