Investment Discipline
The Friess Associates, LLC ("Friess Associates") strategy follows the firm's
guiding motto: "Never invest in the stock market, invest in individual
businesses." The firm employs a time-tested growth strategy based on the
premise that individual company fundamentals determine stock prices over the
long term.
Friess Associates capitalizes on the relationship between earnings performance
and stock prices by isolating companies that are experiencing rapid
year-over-year earnings growth and that sell at reasonable multiples of
earnings estimates. Investment decisions are based on insights gathered by more
than 30 investment professionals who perform over 1,000 interviews per week
with target company managements, competitors, customers and suppliers. The
Friess Associates team uses the insights they gather to determine which
companies meet the criteria that is most likely to exceed consensus
earnings estimates.
In addition to rapid earnings growth and reasonable valuations, Friess
Associates typically requires potential holdings to possess at least three
years of earnings history and $3 million in after-tax income, thus preventing
the firm from owning unproven concept stocks.
The Firm
Founded in 1974, Friess Associates manages the three Brandywine Funds, as well
as individual portfolios for a diverse client group consisting of individual
investors and large institutions.
Morningstar described the Friess Associates team as "one of the deepest
management staffs in the business."
The senior management of the firm have a significant amount of their
personal stock market investments invested in the Brandywine Funds. In
addition, the assets of the Friess Associates employee pension plan are
invested in the Brandywine Funds.
